Brian Egland is a multi-hyphenate Artist from the small town of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana considered to be the "Crawfish Capital of the World." He is a 2026 alum of the Tony Award-winning National Black Theatre's I Am Soul Playwright Residency where his culminating project, The Festival in da Back, became his sold-out New York City debut. He is a graduate from The University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he was named The Outstanding Graduate of the Department of Performing Arts. Egland's work has been commissioned by The Apollo, developed and presented by National Black Theatre, honored by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, and presented or produced at the National Black Arts Festival, the We Will Dream New Works Festival, Atlanta Black Theatre Festival, and DC Black Theatre Festival. His work has been directed by artists including Lauren Turner Hines, Marshall Jones, Kamilah Forbes, Aku Kadogo, and Nic Ashe. Brian has dedicated his artistic life to writing stories that build community, pass down lessons, display culture, and expose artistic innovation to Black artists and audiences.

Our mission is to showcase the vibrant tapestry of black theater work, amplifying our voices, providing a platform for artists of color to share their stories and express their creativity through the powerful medium of theater. By presenting diverse narratives and perspectives, we aim to make a lasting impact on our community, fostering understanding, empathy, and dialogue. Through BTE, we strive to not only uplift and empower artists of color but our community as well by offering a space to shine and ensuring that their voices are heard and valued.
